Sadly, nothing quite says "beat me up" to the other middle school kids like being really good at spelling bees. I consider myself to be a passable speller, I usually skip the spellcheck phase of blogging, sometimes I am sure to my readers dismay.:D...no one is perfect, but I always passed on the spelling bees in middle school.
It is actually sad that any event that celebrates learning and knowledge in our society is often ridiculed by the general population. There is way too much emphasis on sports and very-little emphasis on academics...the true purpose for an educational establishment.
Sports won't keep the United States at the forefront of a global economy and yet we pour a huge portion of our resources into an activity that is supposed to promote teamwork in a society that values individualism above all else.
If you want to see teamwork in action, go to Japan and you will quickly understand why they will soon own the good old USA. I can't remember the last time I saw a Japanese basketball or football game, but I sure see a huge number of their cars on the streets of the United States.
I guess sports teaches teamwork and team spirit...I guess, but for some reason Japan and other Asian cultures seem to totally-own Americans in team utilization for productivity.;) Ask any coach and they will tell you sports is all about teamwork and team spirit. Maybe sports is about a star athlete and his or her supporting cast.;) I am sure that somewhere some coach is going all red in the face (have you ever noticed that coaches go red in the face a lot? ...must be from being around all that "teamwork") and calling me a numb nut...but I'll bet he owns a Honda.:D. Actually I looked up the spelling and it is listed as both numb nut and numbnut...maybe spelling is important afterall.;)

Rachel Ray Scarf News - A Rachel Ray scarf actually made headlines today. I am assuming that today was a slow news day...sigh.
For months and months and months now, I have tried to find something more ridiculous than the idea of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama as President of the United States and I have finally found it...a scarf worn by Rachel Ray has people debating whether or not Rachel Ray is showing support for the terrorists.
How can this be?, you ask. Well, apparently Rachel Ray, who looks about as terrorizing as a rabbit in heat is wearing a scarf that someone apparently thinks looks like a Keffiyeh, a headdress worn by Arab men to signify solidarity with Palestinian terrorists.
First of all, I doubt that a terrorist group would want Rachel Ray as their mascot. I am sure that Rachel Ray bakes a mean tin of biscuits, but I can't imagine a big bad bunch of terrorists wanting Rachel Ray as their poster child.;)
Secondly, the Rachel Ray scarf in question, doesn't look much like the pictures of Keffiyeh that I checked out when I heard the news that this Rachel Ray scarf was making headlines and scaring innocent children, causing them to have nightmares about terrorists and cooking.
Further, for all we know, Rachel Ray may have just tossed on the scarf to hide a hickey from a bit of passionate romance the night before and it just happened to come out looking like a terrorist emblem. Kind of like when you toss eggs in a skillet and it ends up looking like a clown or a rabbit or some other coincidence that is still edible and is still, despite its otherwise menacing outward appearance, an egg...preferably over easy and served with hashbrowns and toast.
For now, I think that the United States is safe from Rachel Ray, the now famous Rachel Ray scarf and the worst that could happen is that while channel surfing we stumble across a Rachel Ray show while we have a hangover and throw up.
I can't imagine why this country is worried about a Rachel Ray scarf when there is even a remote possibility that the United States citizenry might actually be stupid enough to elect either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama as President...now that is a truly-terrorizing thought.

I had to laugh when I saw that no fault divorce was being examined as a reasonable way to end a marriage. I guess the debate here is fault vs. no fault divorce. I decided to see what YouTube had to offer on the subject of No Fault Divorce.
Actually, the woman in this video makes some very-valid points about the subject of no fault divorce and she will probably make someone a great wife someday.
My thought on the whole no fault divorce issus is...Why do people get married in the first place? If you are interested in no fault divorce, then you are probably wondering the same thing.;) Nothing requires you to actually get married. I guess both parties are at fault if they choose marriage to begin with...but that is not why no fault divorce is underfire.
My guess is that no fault divorce is under pressure by the right because some conservatives believe divorce has become "too easy." I am further guessing that many want the process to be painful for the sake of the family and so that those entering into marriage give it more thought before they tie the knot. (I am just full of bad rhymes and puns tonight...sigh.)
To be honest, no fault divorce doesn't seem to make much sense to me. If I were married and wanted a divorce, of COURSE it would be her fault...let justice be served.:D (Have you ever noticed that I will say just about anything?)

Elizabeth Reaser News - Elizabeth Reaser will play Bella Bloom on The Ex List a new fall 2008 series on CBS. Elizabeth Reaser plays a hot, sexy 30-ish successful business owner with no real prospect for marriage (hmm...havn't I heard this description before...like 5000 times? Apparently being a successful in business and a woman spells romantic solitude in the eyes of script writers.) Well anyway, Elizabeth Reaser playing Bella Bloom (actually the name Bella Bloom sounds like a successful business woman who is still hot, fertile, frustratecd and looking for action...kudos on that one scriptwriters) learns from some wacked-out psychic, played by Anne Bedian, that she has already met the man of her dreams. Not only has he met her future husband, she also actually dated the guy.
Well, if that plot isn't interesting enough (rolls eyes) she also has just one year to figure out which former date was the one who got away, so to speak. Further, if she doesn't rediscover this future husband within one year then she will forever be alone with her shower massage and a good romance novel.;) To make matters worse, she has, I am guessing, dated half the men within a 2000 mile radius of her apartment.;)
Seriously, this is actually the plot of the Elizabeth Reaser series, The Ex List. I don't make this stuff up...the storyline is actually this far-fetched.:D Ok, ok, I did add a bit of editorial comment and embelishment, but as you can see from this Elizabeth Reaser The Ex List trailer, that is pretty much what the series has in store for you...if you can imagine that.
I highly recommend you check out this series just to see how wild the storyline can actually become as the series progresses throughout the season. I often wonder if a lot of the Hollywood screenwriters are hot, female, sexy, successful and frustrated.;)...hmmm food for thought, they certainly write about that alot these days.
Screenwriters seem to also like to write a lot these days about how there are no good men out there. We are out there ladies, we just don't happen to be tremendously interested in 30ish successful businesswomen, even if they are hot, who suddenly decide they want a husband because it now fits into their plan since they have their career under wraps and can now fit us into their busy schedules.;) This is the same type who calls me and wants to do "lunch."...sigh...no thanks. JetBlue Toilet Scandal News - JetBlue is being sued by a New York man who claims that the pilot of the flight allegedly made him sit on the toilet and return a seat he had arranged with a fight attendant to use during the flight while she sat on a jumpseat.
Apparently, the man did not enjoy the flight while perched on the toilet. The man was traveling on a "buddy pass" that is a standby voucher given to friends by airline employees. As with any issue there are two sides to every story.

Apparently, Obama couldn't think of an answer quick enough so he put off Peggy Agar with the comment, "hold on one second, sweetie."
Obama later apologized to Peggy Agar for calling her, "sweetie," but Peggy Agar refers to herself as "sweetie" in this video. Obama never did answer Peggy Agar's question, although Peggy Agar's question certainly deserved an answer.
As for the question about how to help American auto workers, maybe Obama might have suggested that the auto manufacturers develop car designs that people actually want to BUY. With gas prices hovering at around four dollars per gallon, it might be time for American auto manufacturers to begin to think about developing some small, fuel-efficient hatchbacks instead of huge, clumsy cars and gas-guzzling SUV's...just a thought.
A sure way to help the US Auto Workers would be to build cars that consumers WANT.;) Focus on quality and fuel-efficiency and concentrate on building a car that offers solid value and incredible fuel economy. Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door.;) If you sell more cars, your workers keep their jobs. It isn't rocket science...design better cars, the rest will take care of itself. American auto makers are too slow to respond to changes in the marketplace. It might be smart to develop car platforms that are flexible and can easily be adapted to changes in consumer sentiment. Oh wait...this all makes too much sense...nevermind, sweetie.
One thing we have to remember is that Peggy Agar was asking this question of a man, running for President of the United States who thinks that there are at LEAST 57 United States.;) How can we expect Barack Obama to come up with a viable answer to a legitimate question if he can't even remember how many stars are on the American flag?

Perhaps the trend will reverse once Americans realize that Barack Obama doesn't even know how many states are in the country he hopes to lead, but until Americans begin to question his ability to serve as President, this string of victories by the democratic candidates, now reinforced by the Mississippi Special Election results, serves as a warning to Republicians that they may have a tough race ahead of them in this fall's election.

The interesting thing is that every YouTube MRirian video listed in the YouTube MRirian channel has well over a million views. I know, I know, I usually claim to have all the answers, but YouTube MRirian has me stumped.
Why on earth is YouTube MRirian one of the most-popular channels on YouTube? Why on earth would millions of people spend a collective millions and millions of hours watching YouTube MRirian do essentially NOTHING.
I watched several YouTube MRirian videos and I still can't imagine why on earth anyone would waste their time watching YouTube MRirian. The sad part is I just made you waste 39 seconds watching this video...misery loves company.;)

Arctic Meltdown and Why I Should Win the Nobel Prize in Economics...but probably won't - The Arctic Meltdown is accelerating rapidly, posing a threat to Arctic wildlife and US Coastal regions, yet we have still not developed a plan that offers any real solution to the problem of global warming.
There is a simple solution to global warming, but people will never change voluntarily. Personal needs will always outweigh the greater good in the eyes of the consumer.
People crave status and fast, powerful cars equate to status in the eyes of many consumers. Only two forces will effect the change needed to reduce pollution: economic change and legislative change.
The simplest solution to the global-warming crisis would be to implement a global thirty-mileper-hour speed limit. This would greatly reduce the weight of vehicles and dramatically improve their efficiency. The reduced speed would dramatically reduce accidents and traffic fatalities while generating far-fewer pollutants.
People would adapt to this change...gradually...yet they would adapt in time. Commuters would relocate to reduce travel time and people would begin to plan their errands more efficiently. Stop and think for a moment just how many ways that reducing vehicle speed to thirty miles per hour would save fuel.
Why should I win the Nobel Prize for Economics...but probably won't?
First of all, my plan makes sense. It makes a lot more sense than any of the proposals that have been offered by Presidential hopefuls during the 2008 Presidential election preliminaries.
Second, it will probably never happen. I ran the idea by my dentist who is very-intelligent man and he immediately suggested, "and those who want to go faster can pay a fee for the privildge." My thought was ... sigh. This brings me to my third point...
Third...this proposal will probably never happen. The ego-centric nature of humans won't allow the greater good to prevail over their personal desire to go fast and appear prosperous; therefore, the legislation to implement the thirty-mile-per-hour speed limit would never probably never pass. The proposal applies equally to everyone...there is no way for anyone to feel superior if everyone is required to go the same speed.
The question is...can a true theory that is brilliant by virtue of simplicity win the Nobel Prize in Economics? I am not certain if the powers that be in the nomination and selection process can look beyond the stale-academic journals long enough to recognize brilliance.;) Further, can the powers that be look beyond the fact that I just made that comment and still award me the Nobel Prize in Economics? In other words, can the powers that be that determine the winner of the Nobel Prize look to the greater good and not feel insulted by what I just said?
The only other solution is to artificially inflate the price of gasoline through taxation.;) Eliminate the IRS and impose a fuel tax instead. I can guarantee you that overnight, fuel conservation would become a top priority.
There you go...two ideas that are good enough to win the Nobel Prize in Economics. The first solution protects the poor...the second solution punishes the poor. Which do you think would be the more popular solution if people were forced to choose?;)
Arctic Melt Rate - The Arctic Melt Rate is accelerating rapidly to the extent that some experts predict that US coastal regions could become swampy by 2099.
The Arctic Melt rate is increasing rapidly, due to global warming, yet Motor Trend named the Cadillac CTS the 2008 Motor Trend Car of the Year...sigh...I repeat...sigh.
Am I mistaken, or is a huge gas-guzzling domestic car truly the "trend" of the future? The Arctic Melt Rate is already causing problems, yet we continue to ignore the problem and continue our present energy-intensive practices, ignoring the consequences of our wasteful energy consumption.
Using this same logic, I am assuming that a Hummer will be the 2009 Motor Trend Car of the Year.;)
Farmer Wants A Wife - Farmer Wants A Wife is a reality television show that airs on CW where, you guessed it, a farmer wants a wife.
The farmer wants a wife, but I can't imagine some of these girls actually fitting in in a town with a population of just over 300 people. Most of these girls look like they have never done an honest day of work in their entire lifetime.
None-the-less, farmer wants a wife is a hit...sigh. I guess people just can't get anough of reality dating shows. Maybe the rural twist makes it more interesting in a Green Acres sort of way.
As you can see from the A Farmer Wants a Wife, these girls have their work cut out for them if they want to land the farmer.

At first, many accepted the apology from Miley Cyrus at face value. They assumed that poor-innocent 15 year-old Miley Cyrus was the victim of manipulation during the now infamous Miley Cyrus photo session at Vanity Fair.
Now, a video has emerged, according to USA Today, "Widely viewed video of the shoot shows a cooperative Cyrus posing at length with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus." This video has led many to wonder if indeed Miley Cyrus was truly manipulated during the photo session since her father Billy Ray Cyrus was obviously present and involved during the photo session.
It is very easy to do something questionable and then say..."I'm sorry." I guess the question on many people's minds is...Is an apology for what seems at face value a publicity stunt, sincere? Does an apology make everything allright if you willingly participate in something that they feel is dubious in nature? Are people beginning to apologize after the fact in order to do things that they know at the time that they shouldn't do? I'll let you decide.
