The largest factor in friendships is proximity. I have noticed over the years that the largest factor in friendships is how close the friend lives, works or plays in proximity to where I am at the time.
Have you ever noticed that your neighbors who great friends when they lived nearby slowly fade away once they move? (I know, I know...sometimes you WISH some of your neighbors would finally move.) Sure, you hear from them for a while right after they move...they call, send cards, drop by, etc.. As time goes by you hear from them less and less...soon just at Christmas and then not at all.
Friends at work are the same way it seems. You leave a job and somehow it seems you leave your friends from work behind. College is the same way. It seems that your high school buddies last the longest...wonder why?
